Notice some thoughts on Friends in the Bible:
Exodus 33 tells us God spoke to Moses face to face as a man speaks to his friend.
II Chronicals 20 & Isaiah 41 - The prayer of King Jehoshaphat and the Prophet Isaiah tells of the seed of Abraham a friend of God forever.
John 11 - Jesus called Lazarus His friend.
Matthew 26 - Jesus called Judas friend even though Judas was betraying Him.
III John tells us to greet our friends by name.

1. What is a Friend?
  (1) One who multiplies Joy & Help when in grief
(2) One who comes in when the whole world has gone out
(3) One who knows where you are, understands where you've been and accepts who you've become
  Proverbs ch 14 and 19 warn us that if you're rich in material things, you will have a lot of "so called" friends.
It has been said, "Prosperity begets friends, but adversity proves them."

2. Why is Friendship so Important?
  (1) Friends make life complete
(2) Friends allow us to be ourselves without fear of disappointment
(3) Friends give us a glimpse of the Love of God
John 3:16

3. What does it mean to have a Friend?
Psychology Today asked 40,000 people, "What qualities are most valued in a Friend?"
Answers:
  (1) The ability to keep confidence - Proverbs 17:9
(2) Loyalty - I Samuel 20 - Jonathan and David
(3) Warmth, Affection, Kindness - II Samuel 9 - King David showed Kindness to Saul's grandson

4. What does it mean to have Jesus for a Friend?
  * Christ laid down His life for you.
John 15:13
* He proved a Divine Love, an unconditional love which cannot be earned.
* He took your place on Calvary; your sins, your torment, your suffering - all laid upon Him.
* He cried "I thirst" so you could drink Living Water.
* He cried "My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken Me" so you could say, "Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy Name".
* He suffered sorrow and grief, so you could have Joy unspeakable and full of Glory - I Peter 1:8
* He was laid in a borrowed tomb, so you could have a mansion reserved in Heaven for you. - John 14:1-6

5. How do we become a Friend of Jesus?
  A. Admit you are a sinner - Romans 3
B. Believe in Jesus Christ
C. Confess to Commit your life to Him - Romans 10:9-13

Matthew 11:19 - Jesus is called a Friend to Publicans and Sinners.
